Invitation to the opening of the exhibition of ICONS on the 15th of September 2023 within the EHD

We cordially invite you to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice on Friday 15th of September 2023 at 7 pm for an evening programme as part of the European Heritage Days (EHD).
The evening programme will include sacred music in the church in Bučovice, which will accompany the opening of the exhibition of icons by the iconographer Milada Šprtová. The opening will also include a talk about icons.
During the visiting hours listed on the poster, visitors can see the interior of the church and in the entrance hall a permanent exhibition dedicated to the priest Václav Drbola, who became a victim of the communist regime. There will also be exhibitions.
The travelling exhibition, which was prepared in the church on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the death of Václav Drbola in cooperation with the Bučovice parish by the project partner "Sdružení PAMĚŤ z.s.", consists of three parts. The first two parts are dedicated to the priests Jan Bula and František Pařil, who were illegally executed and thus became victims of the so-called Babik Trials. These parts of the exhibition were prepared by students of grammar schools in Moravské Budějovice and Tišnov. The third part, entitled Gottwald's Nooses - The Last Address of Cejl, presents the extraordinary story of Leopold Doležal, as well as the stories of nine other brave people who were executed in the Brno prison. These include, for example, the fighter Petr Křivka, but also former partisans Jaromír Vrba and the Daňková brothers. The exhibition follows the recently published publication of the same name by Miroslav Kasáček and Luděk Navara. The exhibition of icons will be on display from 15. 9.
An interesting feature of the church in Bučovice is the statue of Virgin Mary Hromničná, which is located on the right behind the entrance door to the nave of the church. The statue is probably an exact copy of the statue from the church of the Trinitarian order in Vienna on Alser Straße and is connected to the creation of the pilgrimage site in the Bučovice church in the first half of the 18th century. There will be a candle stand next to the statue, where you can light a candle and entrust your worries and pains or thank Virgin Mary, the powerful intercessor with God.
