The second year of the Night of Churches event in Bučovice church was also successful

 17.06.2022

On the 10th of June, the nationwide event the Night of Churches took place for the second time in the Bučovice Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This year, the programme included an exhibition with an opening, with the participation of the Norwegian project partner URVAL OSLO ART.

The evening Mass was followed by an accompanying program.

Not only the youngest visitors enjoyed the entertaining performance of The African fairy tales from Prague's Fígl Theatre.

For lovers of art, the opening of the exhibition of the Norwegian artist Helena Urvalkova, who has her roots in the Czech Republic, followed. She draws inspiration from her memories of her childhood in her native country, as well as from the Nordic country that has become her new home. Helena Urvalková exhibited six small oil paintings and seven abstract watercolours at this year's Night of Churches event. The theme of the exhibition was closely linked to the motto of the Night of Churches event. The artist uses symbols in her work and loosely follows the tradition of surrealism, where she finds inspiration in her models such as Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali and Giorgio de Chirico. "On the canvases we can see somewhat dreamy figurative scenes of night landscapes, figures and human faces in the moonlight. The sunlight reflecting on the cosmic body of the moon at night adds a mystical touch to the motifs. The atmosphere of the paintings allows the viewer to touch the mystery that lies in the depths of our souls. Sometimes the perspective of the painting is chosen from a view from space beyond planet Earth, offering the audience an alternative view of the usual vision of our human existence," said the artist about her works.

The project manager Marie Matějů informed the attendees about the implementation of the project and the progress of the repairs so far with the help of a prepared presentation.

The end of the evening belonged to the music scene. The participants could enjoy a concert of classical music with accordion of Anežka Gebauerová and singing of Barbora Jirásková. Both musicians are graduates of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava. You can read more about their achievements in the previous article Invitation to the Night of Churches.

The local priest Tomáš Fránek closed the event with a meditative word for good night.

The whole evening was open to the general public and was an opportunity for anyone to come and see the Bučovice church. Experience that the church is not an empty old building, but a lively meeting place where everyone is welcome.

The exhibition was available for two more days. The author of the works was present at the exhibition every day and willingly talked to the visitors not only about art.

It was a great pleasure to see so many enthusiastic visitors of all ages from near and far.

Many thanks to all the organizers, performers and helpers, as well as to all the people who came and fulfilled the purpose of this event.

The event Night of Churches including the exhibition in the parish of Bučovice is part of the project "Restoration of the organ and revitalization of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice" funded by the EEA Grants 2014-2021.
