The facade of the church in Bučovice shines with a new facade and the clock once again measures time

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice has undergone extensive facade repairs. The expenditure of more than CZK 3 million helped to remove the unsatisfactory condition.
Thanks to God's help and the intercession of St. Joseph, work on the restoration of the facade of the church in Bučovice was successfully completed at the beginning of November.
For four months, demanding repair work was carried out under the scaffolding of the church. Incoherent plaster and paintings were removed. The cladding of the cornices and parapets was completely replaced. They are now protected by titanium zinc sheeting. The tower windows and metal window blinds have been given a new coat of paint after cleaning. The cross was removed and newly gilded.
The original foot of the cross could not be repaired. It was removed and a new one was made, including a sleeve to allow anchoring and easier possible future removal of the cross. After plaster repair and priming, the façade was repainted with new lime stucco throughout. It then received a new coat of silicate facade paint. The original shade was retained. The lightning conductor wire and clamps were replaced. Finally, all plumbing elements were fitted with bird protection in the form of spike strips. A pigeon net was placed on the widest cornice under the clock and in front of the statues.
During the course of the work, several unforeseen facts occurred. One of them was the condition of the stained glass windows. "The large semicircular stained glass window had to be replaced with a replica. The original wooden frame was at the end of its life. The sealant was cracked and missing in many places. Repair was not possible," explains parish priest Tomáš Fránek.
The clock, which had been out of order for two years, was also restored. "As part of the construction contract, the dial and hands were cleaned. The clock movement was put into operation by a professional repair, which was carried out free of charge by Mr Petr Kotrla from Černčín," the parish priest says with gratitude.
The construction work was carried out by the company REDAL AKTIV CZ s.r.o.
The repair of the facade is part of a project "Restoration of the organ and revitalization of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice", for which the parish of Bučovice managed to obtain a grant from the EEA Grants 2014 - 2021 under the programme Culture. Another significant financial support was provided by the town Bučovice and South Moravian Region. The parish of Bučovice is also grateful for the generosity shown by companies and small donors.
