Church in Bučovice boasts a new roof

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice has undergone extensive roof repairs. The expenditure of more than CZK 4.7 million helped to remove the unsatisfactory condition.
Thanks to God's help and the powerful intercession of St. Joseph, work on the restoration of the roof of the church in Bučovice was successfully completed at the end of the holidays.
The five-month repair work focused primarily on replacing the roofing, including new lathing. The roof truss was locally repaired and new access walkways were made. Gutters, downspouts, gutters and other plumbing elements were completely replaced. The sanctum got new copper cladding. The old poppy and cross were removed prior to repair. The poppy had to be re-made and gilded, the cross only needed to be repaired before gilding. In addition to the roof over the nave and chancel, the roof over the entrance hall was also repaired.
"The church is an immovable cultural monument and forms an important dominant feature of Bučovice square. It was built in the first half of the 17th century. It certainly deserves to be preserved for future generations," explains parish priest Tomáš Fránek and adds one interesting fact: "After removing the old poppy from the sanctum sanctorum, we expected to find a box with historical documents and objects from the period of past repairs. Unfortunately, we were disappointed, the box was empty. We did, however, have a case made for the new poppy and placed objects and documents informing the present day in it for the generation that will repair the roof in the future."
The construction work was carried out by the professional company H & B delta, s.r.o.
The repair of the roof is part of a project "Restoration of the organ and revitalization of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice", for which the parish of Bučovice managed to obtain a grant from the EEA Grants 2014 - 2021 under the programme Culture. Another significant financial support was provided by the South Moravian Region. The parish of Bučovice is also grateful for the generosity shown by companies and small donors.
