 26.06.2023

We cordially invite you to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice on Sunday, 23 July 2023 at 2 pm, where the opening of the exhibition with a talk including a documentary screening will take place on the occasion of the 72th anniversary of the death of Václav Drbola. The exhibition on persecution during the totalitarian era will run until 17th of September 2023.

The exhibition, which will be prepared in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Bučovice in cooperation with the Bučovice parish by the project partner "Sdružení PAMĚŤ z.s.", consists of three parts.

The first part is dedicated to the priest Jan Bula, who was illegally executed during so called Babice trials. The exhibition was prepared by students of the Grammar School in Moravské Budějovice.

The second part is also dedicated to a priest who was illegally executed during the Babi trials. His name was František Pařil. This exhibition was prepared by students of the Tišnov grammar school.

The third part, entitled Gottwald's Nooses - The Last Address of Cejl, brings the extraordinary story of Leopold Dolezal and the fate of nine other brave people who were executed in the Brno prison. These include, for example, the resistance fighter Petr Křivka, but also former partisans Jaromír Vrba and the Daňková brothers. The exhibition follows the recently published publication of the same name by Miroslav Kasáček and Luděk Navara.

The exhibition will run until 17th of September 2023.

Vernissage with a talk with representatives of the "Sdružení PAMĚŤ z.s." Mr. Miroslav Kasáček and Ing. Luďek Navara will take place on the 23th of July 2023 at 2 pm.

During the opening there will be an opportunity to watch the documentary film Václav Drbola, Jan Bula, František Pařil -
death on the communist execution ground.

V rámci vernisáže bude možnost zhlédnout dokumentární film Václav Drbola, Jan Bula, František Pařil - Smrt na komunistickém popravišti. What is the documentary about? In the time of communist terror, after 1948, the Church became the enemy. Its leaders are severely persecuted. Three priests from Babice and its surroundings in the Trebic region pay with their lives for their faith and convictions. The Babice case is the name given to events related to the murder of three officials of the local national committee in Babice, Trebic region, in July 1951. These events became a pretext for unleashing a communist attack against entire groups of the population. The aim was mainly to intimidate the Church and to disrupt the peasant families, firmly connected to their native land. In the staged Babik trials, 107 people were convicted. Eleven of them were executed. Among those executed are the three priests to whom this film is dedicated. (26 min.)
